This workshop is for those foodies who find themselves poring over the images in their favourite cookbooks and would love to create great food photography for blogs, Blurb recipe books, and many other possible uses.
Practical, in-class assignments will allow students to explore the three main roles in food photography shoots: food stylist, set stylist, and photographer.
Emphasis will be on working with light—identifying the qualities of natural light, modifying natural light, and creating the right light with simple materials. Students will discover the important role that viewing angle and distance play, as well as the essentials of strong composition. To help set the scene, some props will be provided, and students are encouraged to bring in a few of their own (e.g., old cutting boards, antique cutlery, etc.).
