Get close, and stay real - with just one light. “Keeping it simple” allows a photographer to expand on the possibilities that exist just around, and in front of them, in a portrait setting. Simple tools allow the image-maker to creatively transform ordinary spaces into inspired portrait environments; white walls become shades of grey, an apparent obstruction becomes a compositional element, and perhaps poor ambient light reveals itself to be a perfect background light for a well placed key light.

The workshop covers the essentials of creating effective portraiture lighting with a single light source and blending ambient light with a single source for remarkable results.  Both flash and continuous sources (including cost-effective Compact Fluorescent light sources) will be used to explore the quality of light, mixing light sources, and light shaping.
