DARKROOM I:
Foundation
Photo by SPAO alum Tyler Nykilchyk
This course is designed to introduce individuals with a growing passion for film photography to the fundamentals that they will need to progress in the medium. The course will build a strong foundation for those intrigued by the production of quality photographic images.
Through demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on experience, students will address some of the core aesthetic and technical concerns in black-and-white photography. The course will address camera technique, proper exposure control, film selection, and aesthetic issues, and will provide an introduction to black-and-white shooting concerns. Students will also step into the black-and-white darkroom and be introduced to the fundamentals of processing and creating expressive black-and-white prints from their own negatives.
*Each session of our Foundation courses will reserve one space for the Youth Foundation Initiative. This means that someone between 16-20 years old will have the opportunity to take the course at no cost to them! Apply to the Youth Foundation Initiative here.
All students in the Foundation courses will receive a $100 voucher upon completion of the course which can be applied to a future Part-Time Studies course or workshop at SPAO!
