About
Laura Kay Keeling is a self-taught visual artist, currently located in Hamilton, with a practice that questions notions of the natural world in relation to the human world. Her work encompasses analog photography and video, digital collage, and installation.
As a process-based artist utilizing archival investigations, Keeling’s work includes analog photography, and sourced material merged with elements from plants and flowers that she has grown (for example petals dropped from a flower) or have foraged. The artist scans, photographs, and presses when preparing these sourced natural elements. Then, they are added to what she lovingly refer to as her archive, which at the moment includes over 150 natural elements, creating an ever-evolving digital catalog of the natural world.

Laura Kay Keeling est une artiste visuelle autodidacte actuellement installée à Hamilton. Sa pratique remet en question les rapports entre le monde naturel et le monde humain. Son travail englobe la photographie et la vidéo analogiques, le collage numérique et l’installation.
En tant qu’artiste processuelle utilisant des archives, Keeling produit des œuvres qui comprennent des photographies analogiques et des matériaux d’origine fusionnés avec des éléments de plantes et de fleurs qu’elle a cultivées (par exemple, des pétales tombés d’une fleur) ou cueillies. L’artiste numérise, photographie et imprime au cours de la préparation de ces éléments d’origine naturelle. Ceux-ci sont ensuite ajoutés à ce qu’elle appelle affectueusement ses archives, qui comprennent actuellement plus de 150 éléments naturels, créant ainsi un catalogue numérique en constante évolution du monde naturel.

The SPAO PHOTO WALK is an ongoing and evolving outdoor installation featuring large-scale photographic artworks. Designed as a photographic treasure hunt of sorts, visitors and tourists alike are encouraged to explore and engage with our vibrant Little Italy neighbourhood.
HOW ARE ARTWORKS SELECTED?
The artworks selected for the SPAO PHOTO WALK launch installation were selected from a nationwide open call and by an assessor jury made up of nationally recognized industry leaders.
