Barbara Brown
About
Barbara Brown trained as a visual artist at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (now NSCAD University) and completed her graduate work at what is now Manchester Metropolitan University, in England. Brown’s current work is photographic documents of ephemeral arrangements using natural materials as a visual meditation in and about the landscape. Her work deals with memory and the passage of time referencing the growing season and the inevitable decline of all things as observed in the garden.
EARTHBOUND imagines the human body in relation to the growth patterns of the earth. Brown’s work serves as a monument to all those who have come before us, with an underlying awareness that death feeds life.

Barbara Brown a suivi une formation en arts visuels au Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (aujourd’hui connu sous le nom d’Université NSCAD) et a effectué des études supérieures à l’actuelle Université métropolitaine de Manchester, en Angleterre. Son travail récent consiste en des documents photographiques d’arrangements éphémères à base de matériaux naturels, servant de méditations visuelles qui portent sur le paysage et se situent à l’intérieur de celui-ci. Ses œuvres traitent de la mémoire et du passage du temps en évoquant la saison de la croissance et le déclin inévitable de toute chose, comme on peut l’observer dans le jardin.
EARTHBOUND établit un rapport entre le corps humain et les cycles de croissance de la terre. L’œuvre de Brown sert de monument à ceux et celles qui nous ont précédés, avec comme pensée sous-jacente l’idée que la mort nourrit la vie.

The SPAO PHOTO WALK is an ongoing and evolving outdoor installation featuring large-scale photographic artworks. Designed as a photographic treasure hunt of sorts, visitors and tourists alike are encouraged to explore and engage with our vibrant Little Italy neighbourhood.
HOW ARE ARTWORKS SELECTED?
The artworks selected for the SPAO PHOTO WALK launch installation were selected from a nationwide open call and by an assessor jury made up of nationally recognized industry leaders.
