Andrew Owen is a professional visual artist producing multiple extensive and ongoing programs of work with a variety of media and processes all closely interrelated by principles and processes of layering, excavation, and subtraction revealing absence as the primary "subject" to minimize false subject-object division.
SNOW IN JUNE picturing Michael Snow, who recently passed, is part of DEPTH OF FIELD: MASTERS IN THE ROUND, an ongoing series of large-format photo-based portraits of senior Canadian artists, each composed of 50 separate photographs shot at high-resolution close-up at life-size 1:1-scale for 14x11 inches each, in 5 stages from top to bottom from 10 positions in 360º around the sitter.
With the passing of Michael Snow, Canada has lost a major artistic voice. Rest in peace, Michael.

Andrew Owen est un artiste multidisciplinaire qui travaille sur des processus de superposition, d’excavation et de soustraction. Son travail présente l’absence en tant que principal « sujet » afin de minimiser la division erronée « sujet-objet ».
Cette œuvre fait partie d’une série de portraits photographiques toujours en cours de réalisation qui présente des artistes canadiens renommés en grand format. Chaque portrait se compose de 50 photographies différentes prises en haute résolution et en gros plan, et ce tout autour du modèle.
Michael Snow est un artiste canadien qui a travaillé avec différents médiums, notamment la vidéographie, l’installation, la sculpture, la photographie et la musique. Il a notamment réalisé une sculpture en onze parties de la Woman Walking pour le pavillon de l’Ontario à l’Expo 67 de Montréal. Snow était marié à l’artiste canadienne Joyce Weiland avec qui il a collaboré tout au long de sa carrière.

HOW ARE ARTWORKS SELECTED?
The artworks selected for the SPAO PHOTO WALK launch installation were selected from a nationwide open call and by an assessor jury made up of nationally recognized industry leaders.
