This advanced Photoshop course explores the relationship between photography, printmaking, and the constructed image. Led by Michael Tardioli, Director of Education at SPAO, this course approaches Photoshop not simply as a tool for correction, but as a contemporary darkroom and printmaking studio.

Drawing from both historical and contemporary printmaking practices, participants will investigate ideas of layering, repetition, registration, transparency, surface, and colour. These techniques will be translated into practical Photoshop workflows designed to be efficient and adaptable to individual photographic practices.

The course’s emphasis is on developing simple approaches that can produce sophisticated results. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by Photoshop’s extensive capabilities, students will learn to build a personal toolkit of techniques that can be applied deliberately and creatively.

Through demonstrations, hands on exercises, printing, and discussion, Tardioli will introduce new ways of thinking about the digital image, encouraging participants to move beyond conventional post-processing adjustments towards images that are intentionally constructed.

Photoshop III is intended for the photographer with an intermediate to advanced understanding of Photoshop who wants to expand their visual vocabulary and discover new possibilities within their existing photographic practice.
