KAYLE NEWELL
Biography
Kayle Newell (they/she) is a photo based artist working on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people (Ottawa Canada). Melding analogue and contemporary digital approaches, their work attempts to link their inner struggles to broader social systems and invites viewers to find their own personal connections. In addition to her teaching role at SPAO, they work in the office as the Operations Manager of the organization.
Skillset
As a teacher, with over ten years of post-secondary teaching experience, Neeko can foster a collaborative and communicative classroom environment, where students are free to share ideas and learn from each other.
As an artist, Neeko has experimented with a variety of media to challenge the physical boundaries of photography – from 3D printing in sand stone, to 360 body scans with 200 cameras, and to two-channel video projections on frosted plexiglass.
