KAYLE NEWELL

Biography

Kayle Newell (they/she) is a photo based artist working on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people (Ottawa, Canada). Melding analogue and contemporary digital approaches, their work attempts to link their inner struggles to broader social systems and invites viewers to find their own personal connections. Her work investigates themes of grief, impermanence and identity.

A graduate of Algonquin College’s Photography program, Kayle has developed a strong technical foundation with particular expertise in the technical aspects of photography and lighting. Alongside their artistic practice, they serve Ottawa’s photo community in their role as a Studio and Light Instructor and Operations Manager at SPAO.
