Biography

Amy Bruce is an art historian and lecturer of contemporary art and art theory who aspires to facilitate understanding of how artistic expression creates meaning. Her area of specialization is world/global contemporary art and, more specifically, she is interested in the historiography of art history and contemporary art biennials as an exhibition model. She earned a PhD in Cultural Mediations from Carleton University (2022).

Skillset

• An experienced educator and art historian, Amy’s “History + Theory of Photography” class provides students with the context and theoretical knowledge necessary to understand and situate one’s own art within contemporary and historical art discourses.

• Coming from an academic and research background, Amy teaches students how to understand what their art means, and how to best express that meaning in writing. In doing so, students learn how to talk about their art and about themselves as artists.

• In Amy’s class, students will learn how to examine and analyze art and how to cultivate a critical, high-level approach to their own artmaking.
