DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY II:

Beyond the Basics

Image by SPAO part-time studies student Louise Crosby

This course moves beyond basic camera knowledge to equip students with the ability to identify and troubleshoot problems in their images. Designed around a series of shooting assignments, students will be encouraged to treat every assignment as a project, with the ultimate intention of publicly presenting and sharing their work with their colleagues. Students will learn to:

  • Recover and enhance flawed images

  • Compensate for shortcomings in the original composition

  • Correct exposure and white balance

  • Introduce contrast and sharpness

  • Experiment with a variety of visual ideas and creative approaches

  • Use Capture One and Photoshop to edit images

This course is perfect for those looking to explore their own photographic style, moving beyond basic camera mechanics, to a more holistic, artistic approach to image making.

  • Digital camera & laptop computer. Students are expected to be proficient with their computer and operating system.

  • Digital Photography I: Foundation or equivalent.
