PORTRAIT CONCEPTS

Masterclass

Image detail by SPAO alum Camille West

SPAO’s Concept Classes provide an invaluable opportunity to connect directly with renowned artists and explore four critical photographic genres: landscape/architecture, documentary, still life, and portraiture.

The Portraits Concepts classes alternate between guest lectures by renowned portrait photographers and in-studio experimentation focusing on the theatrics, authenticity, and intimacy of portrait photography.

Over 10 weeks, students will engage critically with topics such as the gaze, and self-portraiture vs the selfie. They will explore various studio lighting methods and production while navigating the dynamics of photographing live subjects.
