OLIVIA JOHNSTON
Biography
Olivia Johnston is an award-winning lens-based artist whose work has been exhibited and published extensively. She uses a variety of photographic strategies as a means to explore questions about the photographic image, portraiture and art history; the self, the body, and illness; and the photographer’s relationship with memory. Her work explores social issues, practices of representation, and the boundaries and biases within her own and other’s belief systems.
Skillset
Olivia has a critical understanding of both contemporary art and the history of photography, allowing students to draw on her deep knowledge of art world trends and sensibilities.
A working artist through and through, Olivia also has extensive experience with art sales, grant writing, gallery and publication submission protocols, and the marketing skills required of artists today.
Olivia is a gifted visual artist, particularly in the field of portraiture. Her theoretical and practical knowledge of the photographic creative process and art history has led to her creating several award-winning bodies of work.
