When creating a body of work, a photographer creates a deep personal connection to their project. A story is being told. How does one communicate that story to the rest of the world? In this eight-week master class, participants will learn how to develop an effective and powerful project from image capture to final print.

SPAO co-founder and Director of Education Michael Tardioli will guide you through the steps from pre-visualization, sketching, scouting your immediate surroundings, gathering your available equipment and source materials, image capture and finally, preparing your images for print using online large format print and book printing options. Whether your subject matter is portraiture, vintage photobook scans, architecture or still life, this class stresses the workflow needed to produce a body of work.

Through working with visual artists at all levels, Tardioli brings a wealth of experience to the table. This personalized eight-week session will not only improve your technical skills, composition and visualization - it will also empower you to make impactful critical projects even under conditions that seem restrictive.

  • Students must have their own film or digital SLR camera and a computer with Photoshop CS6 or later installed. 7-day trial versions of software are available to those who do not have Photoshop installed and a reasonably priced monthly photographers package can be found on the Adobe website. Participants must also have Zoom installed on their computer (a paid account is not required). As this is an advanced-level course, participants’ proficiency with camera techniques, their computer, and Photoshop are expected.
