THE HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The workshop ties the technical development of photography with the use, concepts and execution of photography as a medium. Photography in fact is a medium where technology is forever evolving.

We will travel through the origins of the camera through the development of different recording media such as cyanotype, glass plate, celluloid, silver nitrate etc.

We will then moving onto the development of the camera and its reproduction techniques, i.e. view camera, box camera, Kodak consumer camera, 35mm, digital, etc.

Different photographers and their process will be examined how their work reflected the technology of their time.

While this workshop is not designed as a course in aesthetics or critiquing - it will examine how technology allowed photographers to utilize various creative paths and how photography affected other media and the future developments of photography.
