Instructor Jim Lamont will guide students familiar with Adobe Photoshop through the elements of digital printmaking, both colour and black and white. Heavy emphasis will be placed on workflow and the refinement of the print through the application of key techniques. The goal is to allow students to better see and understand the tonal and colour requirements for making an exceptional print. Students will demonstrate their understanding by creating a small portfolio of prints. Lamont has been teaching the class for many years; he has extensively revised the course to provide more hands-on learning and in keeping with the latest technologies.

Lectures will provide the required technical background and context for aesthetic exploration. Demonstration and practical application will fill the bulk of class time and include: monitor calibration and profiling, colour correction, monochrome techniques, impact of paper choice and RIP, soft proofing and display requirements. Photoshop will be the primary technology used, but Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Lightroom, and Aperture techniques will also be covered.

A small in-house exhibition of prints will be offered to students.

Requirements: A laptop computer with Adobe Photoshop CS4/5/6 or CC. Course participants are expected to be proficient with their computer and to have a basic knowledge of Photoshop. Students will supply their own paper.

Prerequisite: Elementary Photoshop I.
