DESCRIPTION
Why do some photographers choose to shoot subject matter that they know is likely to garner hate mail or even death threats? For all the anger vented at depictions of corpses, blasphemy and provocative sexuality, these works can also raise questions, challenge the status quo and, in their best form, be the catalyst for real social change. In this 5-part lecture and discussion series, we'll meet some of the controversial artists, both historical and contemporary, who've turned their lenses to dark places and exposed poignancy, uncomfortable truths and even beauty where others see only ugliness.
