Portfolio Course Description
A thorough and practical building of the true silver gelatin print craft. The student will be brought back to the darkroom, learning film development, enlarger controls, print development and traditional contrast controls techniques such as dodging, burning,and split-filtering. Through lectures and practicums these techniques will be thoroughly refined and students will have the skills to create fully expressive silver gelatin prints.

Students must undergo a portfolio review before acceptance into this course.  There are no other prerequisites for this course. This is a basic level course and teaches material useful for other SPAO courses and workshops. Students must have their own medium format film camera. The materials fee for this course covers darkroom chemistry and a limited quantity of film, film developer and photographic paper. The fee also covers darkroom-booking costs for participating students. Enrolment is limited to ensure one-on-one attention.
