master class: Inkjet printmaking with michael tardioli

This inkjet printmaking course will take place at SPAO Studio B using Epson’s latest inkjet printers and scanners. Master printmaker Michael Tardioli will guide students with a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop, through an in-depth exploration of its workings. Heavy emphasis will be placed on workflow, colour management, layer development, and brush skills.

The overall goal, through the production and design of a small portfolio, is to allow students to take command of the software.

Lectures will link digital based media with the achievements of master printmakers, and alternative inkjet papers and presentation styles will be investigated to seamlessly bridge the gap between the analogue aesthetic and digital output.

Demonstration and practical application will fill the bulk of class time, and include: proper scanning techniques with various software, archiving, tablet usage, and advanced printmaking techniques including electronic etching and quadratone printing to produce both colour and black and white inkjet prints.

Inks are included in the tuition fees for Fine Art Inkjet Printmaking. Students must have access to a laptop computer and a version of Adobe Photoshop CS5 or CS6/CC. Students will supply their own inkjet paper. This is an intermediate level course; therefore, working knowledge of Photoshop is expected. Enrolment is limited to ensure one-on-one attention.

Prerequisite: Photoshop I.
