Portfolio Course Description
Images and Ideas I is a seminar course that will build on the conceptual, critical, and historical foundations introduced to students in History and Theory of Photography I and II. Students will be introduced to some of the core approaches in the historical and conceptual study of photography. Student investigations will provide the direction and structure of the course. Seminar explorations will take place through a variety of activities, discussions, readings and group work.
The course is organized around lectures, study visits to galleries and cultural institutions, student-directed discussions and presentations, and group work. Evaluation will be based on a series of writing assignments, written and oral presentation skills, and individual exploration and growth.
The prerequisite for this course is History and Theory of Photography II - The 20th Century or its equivalent. This is an intermediate level course and expands on fundamentals necessary for other SPAO courses and workshops. Enrolment is limited to ensure one-on-one attention.
