The SPAO facility
has:
- A multi-format darkroom, for both silver gelatin and alternative
printmaking
- A wet-dry daylight production and mounting area
- A state-of-the-art ink jet printing facility including a
large format printer, a flatbed scanner and fully calibrated
monitors
- Industry standard lighting and support equipment in a daylight
studio
- Electronic classroom and wireless internet access
- Equipment storage and loan pool
- Student lockers
- Reference library
- Common area
- Gallery and exhibition spaces

The
facility is designed to accommodate a student body of 24 full-time
students with additional part-time students attending workshops
and continuing education classes. Accessible seven days a
week, the full time students have extended use of the darkroom,
computer labs and studio spaces.
Instructors are on site on a regular basis with full-time
office hours outside of scheduled lectures to allow for one-on-one
consultation at every stage of image and portfolio production.
Gallery and exhibition spaces showcase the work of our students
and show photographic collections curated by students and
faculty.
SPAO is within walking distance of the Canadian Museum of
Contemporary Photography, the National Archives, the National
Gallery of Canada, Arts Court, the Ottawa School of Art and
many commercial and public gallery spaces. |
