Description
The SPAO facility, located in the Byward Market, is a unique and yet comfortable space. Laid out in the traditional "New York School" studio style, students have access seven days a week to the equipment, computers, resources and information required to hone their skills and produce high-end work.

The SPAO facility has:
- A multi-format darkroom, for both silver gelatin and alternative printmaking
- A wet-dry daylight production and mounting area
- A state-of-the-art ink jet printing facility including a large format printer, a flatbed scanner and fully calibrated monitors
- Industry standard lighting and support equipment in a daylight studio
- Electronic classroom and wireless internet access
- Equipment storage and loan pool
- Student lockers
- Reference library
- Common area
- Gallery and exhibition spaces

The facility is designed to accommodate a student body of 24 full-time students with additional part-time students attending workshops and continuing education classes. Accessible seven days a week, the full time students have extended use of the darkroom, computer labs and studio spaces.

Instructors are on site on a regular basis with full-time office hours outside of scheduled lectures to allow for one-on-one consultation at every stage of image and portfolio production.
Gallery and exhibition spaces showcase the work of our students and show photographic collections curated by students and faculty.
SPAO is within walking distance of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, the National Archives, the National Gallery of Canada, Arts Court, the Ottawa School of Art and many commercial and public gallery spaces.
