SPAO IS HIRING A DARKROOM INSTRUCTOR!
The School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa requires a Darkroom Instructor, responsible for working with full-time students in the first year of the SPAO Portfolio Arts & Production Program. SPAO students entering the program typically have little to no experience using film or working in the darkroom; as such the Darkroom Instructor will be taking many students through the very basics of developing and printing their own analogue images, and will be supporting them in producing portfolios of this work.
This instructor will educate students in all the varying analogue photographic practices, including film processing in all formats, silver gelatin printmaking, working with fibre-based emulsions, and advanced printmaking techniques including toning, bleaching, etc. Experience using historic processes (i.e. wet plate, dry plate, etc.) is an asset but is not required.
This instructor will report student attendance on a weekly basis, complete assessments and evaluations of students, and will ensure that students follow all required safety procedures. The instructor will also report maintenance issues or supply (i.e. chemistry) requirements to administration.
