CARBON & COPPER: toning the darkroom print
The emotional impact of colour is the missing factor for many of us who practice black-and-white darkroom printing. This impact can be restored through the techniques of toning and selective toning, many of which will be addressed in this workshop.
The instructor will guide students through the hands-on toning of black and white prints. The theory and the chemistry of toning will also be covered. The archival toning methods of Sepia and Carbon will be covered, as well as the non-archival toning methods of Copper and Iron Blue. The archival methods of Selenium and Gold will also be discussed. Tips and tricks for multiple toning will be discussed.
All chemistry is included in the tuition. Students will have the option of using sample prints provided, or to bring in prints of their own making for practice. They will receive prepared lecture review materials to take home, as well as their finished prints.
PREREQUISITE: None. Film Photography Bootcamp or equivalent is recommended but not required.
