On The Road

An Update of Sorts:

As some of you may know, Im living in Taiwan these days.
My first year here was, well, a little difficult on my morale.
I think I really underestimated the importance of an artistic community and peers.
I have felt lethargic and unproductive, but when I look back I did complete a large body of work based on my travels as well as a sort of graphic novel illustrated with photographs.
Im just finishing up the book now, and will be looking to have it published soon.
BUT what I’m really excited about are some portrait projects Im starting in the coming months. Look for an expansion of the voice series featuring some Taiwanese old timers singing karaoke by the side of the road
AND
Some ladies and gentlemen enjoying beetle nut and showing off their beautiful red mouths.
Im able to start these projects because I’ve got the support of an amazing assistant/translator and a new travel ready Alien Bee.
Im hoping that puppy will come to Africa with me in January 2013 (a trip Im trying to get some grant funding for, and if that fails maybe a kickstarter campaign).
But what are you looking at now you ask?
The portraits are from a very personal project I completed while I was home for a visit. I call them say goodbye.
In the first photo the person says goodbye.
The second we see the aftermath.
The third they walk away.
I guess Im always trying to get those rare moments of emotional honesty by doing something very artificial, composing a picture.
I guess you could say I manipulate my subjects by putting words of songs in their mouths.
The other photos are from my favourite weekend activity, bicycle camping trips around the island.
So you will be able to check out things to come on my new coming soon website NONEOFITISTRUTH.COM which the beautiful and talented Fisher is working on as we speak. Until then thanks for reading.
